Why a carpenter, not a kit
Who builds custom faux beams in Brigham City?
A faux beam only looks real if it sits tight to the ceiling, runs straight across the room and lines up with the walls it meets. That is finish carpentry, and it is the same standard behind the business name: joints that close up, edges that read straight, and no gaps at the ceiling line.
A licensed general contractor
The license carries the Utah register's Carpentry & Flooring classification, so a beam job is done by a contractor, not a handyman guessing at it.
Remodeling background
Our owner has worked construction since he was a teenager, mostly remodeling and then hardwood flooring, and has taken part in five complete home remodels and the building of two homes from the ground up.
Fitted to the ceiling you have
Ceilings in older Box Elder and Weber County houses are rarely flat and level. A beam cut to one measurement shows a gap somewhere, so each one is fitted against the actual ceiling.
More about why homeowners choose To The T
In Tyler's words from the old site: "Though I am a licensed General Contractor, I started To The T Handyman Services because I prefer working on smaller, varied projects." A single beam over a living room, or a set of them across a great room, is exactly that kind of project.
Beams usually go up alongside other trim work. The wider carpentry side, from mantels to stair railings, is on Finish Carpentry & Woodworking in Brigham City.

What a faux beam is
What is a faux beam, and what can it do for a room?
A faux beam is a decorative beam. It looks like a solid timber across the ceiling but carries no weight, so it can go where the framing above would never allow a real one. It is fastened to the ceiling framing so it holds its own weight and nothing more.
People ask for them for a few reasons: to give a plain great room or vaulted ceiling some character, to tie a kitchen and living area together, or to change the look of a beam that is already there. On one job a homeowner flipping a house did not like the beam in the living room, and we gave it a different look as part of the floors, stairs, cabinets and trim we were already doing.
A real job, from a Google review: "I didn’t love the beam that was in my living room and he provided an alternative look. It’s perfect, I’m obsessed."
More about custom faux beams
- New decorative beams across a flat or vaulted ceiling
- A new look for an existing beam you do not like
- Boxed beams that wrap a ceiling corner, finished to match the walls
- Faux posts paired with beams
- Mantels and trim to match, see Finish Carpentry & Woodworking in Brigham City
Size, spacing and finish depend on the room. Wood tone, paint or a finish that matches the ceiling are all talked through at the estimate, before anything is built.

Is it a fit?
When is a faux beam the right call?
A faux beam is a finish choice, not a repair, so the question is whether it suits the room. These are the situations where it usually does.
- A large room or vaulted ceiling feels plain and needs a focal point
- An existing beam does not match the rest of the remodel
- A kitchen and living area need something to tie them together
- A wood mantel or stained trim in the room has nothing to echo it
- You want the look of timber framing without new structure

When a faux beam is not the answer
If a ceiling is sagging or a beam is cracked, that is a structural problem, and a decorative beam over it would only hide it. That needs a structural fix first, and we will tell you so at the estimate rather than cover it up.
Water stains on a ceiling point at a leak above. Find and stop the water before anything decorative goes up; the repair side is on Drywall Repair in Brigham City.
How a beam job runs
How does a faux beam installation work?
- Step : 01
Send photos of the room
Use the estimate form with a wide shot of the ceiling, the rough length you have in mind, and a photo of any wood or trim you want the beam to match.
- Step : 02
Check the ceiling
The ceiling gets checked for level and the framing above gets located before anything is cut, so every beam has something solid to fasten to.
- Step : 03
Build and fit
Each beam is cut to the room as it actually is, fastened to the framing and fitted tight to the ceiling and walls.
- Step : 04
Finish and touch-up
Joints are filled and the beam is finished in the look agreed at the estimate, with touch-up where it meets the ceiling. A full repaint of the room is priced separately if you want one.

Smith Staircases was referred to me by my granddaughter. I needed a railing in a spot in my house that didn’t previously have it. He was so nice and helpful! Saw where I needed the railing and took special care to make sure that it matches the other railing in my house perfectly. He was good and efficient, he made it look like it was all put in at the same time, but it wasn’t! He was very professional and responsive, and did great quality work! While he was there I also asked if he could fix my fence, and my cabinet door. And he did both, even though that’s not what he was contacted about.
We love our stairs and our flooring. Tyler has all the tools and is a perfectionist. He takes the time to do the job right. Very impressed with the final look. We will hire him again.
Best stairs I’ve seen!
We had a unique project for Tyler to take and he jumped right into it and executed it so well! He paid attention to details I wouldn’t have thought of and we are so happy with the work he did. And finish work we need done in the future I will be sure to get back in touch with Tyler!
Tyler did the stairs in our store and we were very impressed. He did all the prep work which included taking time to find a good match to the flooring that we already had, took of the carpet that was glued to the cement, and evened out bumpy spots. He was very professional and took special care to come in before we opened so that he would not disrupt our normal business hours. We were impressed with the quality of his work because he had to lay flooring down around rails that could not be removed and there are no gaps. He also offered to repaint our siding that needed to be done. Tyler was great and we would recommend him to anyone needing stairs, flooring, or any other finished work done.
Provided great services. I was flipping my house and he put the LVP floor, hardwood stairs, cabinets, and trim in. I didn’t love the beam that was in my living room and he provided an alternative look. It’s perfect, I’m obsessed. He has great pricing and will work with you.
FAQs
Custom Faux Beam Installation in Brigham City: frequently asked questions
Is a faux beam structural?
No. A faux beam is decorative and carries no load. It is fastened to the ceiling framing so it holds itself up, and that is all it does. A beam that has to carry weight is structural framing, which is a different job from a decorative beam.
Can you change the look of a beam I already have?
Yes. One customer flipping a house did not like the beam in the living room, and we gave it a different look. In their Google review they called the result perfect. Send a photo of the beam and the look you want.
Is there a minimum for a small faux beam job in Box Elder or Weber County?
Yes. Short jobs, meaning under two hours, carry a minimum that we confirm up front. We do not publish a figure, so pairing a single beam with other items on your list is the usual way to use it.
Is To The T licensed for carpentry work in Utah?
Yes. The license is held by the business entity: License No: 13021266-5501 (held by Precision Cut Construction LLC). You can check it on Utah DOPL's public licensee lookup.
