What we do in North Ogden

Handyman services in North Ogden

Carpentry that has to be right rather than fast suits North Ogden houses: stair railings, treads, thresholds and built-ins. The ordinary list is here as well, from drywall and doors to cabinets, flooring, fence and rot repair.

Local knowledge

What North Ogden homes tend to need

North Ogden sits at the base of Ben Lomond Peak, three miles north of Ogden on SR-235, and covers about 6.5 square miles. The town center stands at about 4,613 feet, close to 300 feet higher than central Ogden or Harrisville, so houses here sit a step up the slope from the valley floor.

The town is not new. Cattle ranchers from Ogden wintered here in 1850, families settled for good the following year, and the land grew sugar beets and then fruit orchards. After World War II most of the farmland was divided up for homes, and the census count kept climbing, from 11,668 in 1990 to 20,916 in 2020. A North Ogden list can come from a postwar house or from one built in the last few years.

About 14.4 percent of residents were 65 or older at the 2020 census. Grab rails, stair railings, thresholds and other assisted living modifications are part of what we offer, and they are jobs where doing it properly matters more than doing it fast. A modification can look simple and still cross into electrical or plumbing, so we tell you which parts we can take.

More about our work in North Ogden

Stair railings and interior carpentry are some of the work we are proudest of, and the gallery includes photographs of real railing and stair tread jobs rather than stock images.

North Ogden is about 14.5 miles from Brigham City in a straight line, well inside our working radius. Commercial property maintenance is one of our two main service lines, so a property manager with units in North Ogden can send the same kind of list a homeowner would.

Local conditions

Common home repair problems in North Ogden, UT

  • Fence posts and gates. Wood posts give out at ground level, where wet soil and freezing meet, and a gate that starts dragging or needs lifting to latch usually points to the post.
  • Caulk at windows, doors and trim. Snow in this part of Weber County usually arrives in late October or early November and hangs on into April, and every freeze opens a failed caulk line a little further.
  • Exterior paint lifting in patches. Paint that lifts in a defined patch, rather than fading evenly, usually means moisture is getting in behind it.
  • Interior doors that start catching. Houses on former orchard ground have had decades to settle, and doors that begin catching where they did not before are a common list item.
  • Loose railings and missing grab rails. With one resident in seven aged 65 or older, a loose stair railing or a bathroom without a grab rail is worth fixing before it turns into a fall.

For anything fence related, send a photo of the base of the nearest posts along with the list. That is usually what decides between a repair and rebuilding a section.

About the area

About North Ogden, UT

The Shoshone lived here first, and their name for the area, Opecarry, translates to "stick in the head." European-American settlement began in the winter of 1850, when the Campbell and Riddle families brought cattle up from the fort in Ogden. They went back to Ogden after a few months, and Jonathan Campbell returned with other families the following year to stay.

Sugar beets were an early industry, with a processing and canning plant in town, and orchards later became the economic staple. The North Ogden Fruit Exchange, set up in 1924, was the region's first fruit cooperative and sold fruit on the interstate market by rail. North Ogden incorporated on February 1, 1934, the same decade the Cherry Days celebration began on July 4.

More about North Ogden

The town also built a rail spur from the Union Pacific station in Ogden, known as the Dummy Line. As the farm industries faded after World War II, North Ogden became a primary suburb of Ogden.

The 2020 census counted 20,916 residents, 6,829 housing units and a median age of 34.8, and 42.1 percent of households had children living in them.

While Tyler was looking at my house he was professional, honest and upfront. During his initial consultation he quickly fixed my doorbell. Since then I gave him the key to my house and he worked on several of my projects that consist of Garage opener maintenance, installation of a new door, install of door locks and various items that I could not tackle.

Tyler is a great handyman. I had some trouble with my dishwasher not sitting right, which led to lots of trouble while loading/unloading it. He came in and within a few minutes knew what the problem was and exactly how to fix it. He's a very trustworthy and kind guy. I'd trust him to work at my house while I was away if I had a bigger project. 5 stars!

Tyler fixed the lock on my front door. He fixed the reclining gear on my couch. He changed out my dryer and was able to quickly identify and solve the electrical head not matching. Willing to trust that he could solve most any challenge encountered or quickly identify a solve in a home. Also, have confidence with his abilities as well as with vehicles.

Tyler has done a couple of different things for me. He is professional and does research to make certain he knows exactly what needs to be done to do the job correctly. I am finally confident that after four years and two prior repairs that my skylights will no longer leak. Plus he said if they do he will come back and fix them.

Tyler replaced a rotten wood bearing column on our front porch. He did a good job and was willing to explain what he was doing during and before the process. I appreciate the extra care he took in making sure the porch was level and the new post was secure. He did a really great job for us!

Do you do assisted living modifications in North Ogden?

Yes. Grab rails, stair railings and threshold work are part of what we offer. We do not take on electrical or plumbing as part of them.

What will you not do on a North Ogden job?

No electrical, no plumbing, and nothing to do with decks.
