Why buy the boards from the installer

Who builds reclaimed wood accent walls in Brigham City?

An accent wall is only as good as its joints. Boards of mixed widths have to meet in a straight line, wrap a window without a gap and finish clean at an outlet or a corner. That is finish carpentry, and it is the standard behind the business name. On this wall the material and the install come from the same hands, which is not how most accent wall kits work.

  • A licensed general contractor

The license carries the Utah register's Carpentry & Flooring classification, so the wall goes up under a contractor, not a handyman guessing at it.

  • The boards are Tyler's own product

He sorts the wood, cuts the boards to sets of uniform widths, stains them and seals them. You are not buying a box of boards from a warehouse and then hunting for someone to hang them.

  • Fitted to the wall you have

The wall in the photos wraps a picture window, runs behind a long counter and turns a corner. Each board is cut on site to meet those, so the joints close up instead of showing a gap.

More about why homeowners choose To The T

In Tyler's words from the old site: "Though I am a licensed General Contractor, I started To The T Handyman Services because I prefer working on smaller, varied projects." One wall in a basement family room, or a wall and a ceiling on the same job as in these photos, is that kind of project.

Accent walls usually go in alongside other trim work. The wider carpentry side, from mantels to stair railings, is on Finish Carpentry & Woodworking in Brigham City, and decorative beams are on Custom Faux Beam Installation in Brigham City.

What the wood is

What is the reclaimed wood, and how does it arrive?

The wood is a mix of hard and soft woods, mostly pine and oak. Some of it is truly reclaimed. Some is new wood that has been aged so it reads the same way on the wall. Each batch varies, which is the point of a wall like this.

Lengths run from 2 feet to 7 feet, and most boards are the full 7 feet. They are cut to sets of uniform widths, from 3 inches to 7 inches wide, and 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick. Every board is stained, and the stain can be matched to the room, then coated in a low-VOC water-based polyurethane. It arrives ready to install: a chop saw and a brad nailer are the only tools the job needs. Installation is available if you would rather hand it over.

A real job: the wall and the stained ceiling in the photos on this page are one job Tyler finished in October 2026. The boards wrap a picture window and run the length of a built-in counter.

Longer boards mean fewer end joints across the wall. Mixed widths are what make it read as reclaimed rather than paneling.

Is it a fit?

When is a reclaimed wood accent wall the right call?

An accent wall is a finish choice, not a repair, so the question is whether the room wants it. These are the situations where it usually does.

  • A basement family room or office has one long plain wall that needs something
  • A dining room or living room ceiling feels flat and could carry a stained wood ceiling instead
  • A wall behind a built-in counter, bar or desk needs texture that paint will not give it
  • You want boards with real saw marks, nail holes and mixed widths rather than printed panels
  • You want to hang it yourself but want boards that are already stained and sealed

When an accent wall is not the answer

A wall with water coming through it, or a basement wall that stays damp, needs that fixed first. Wood boards over it would only hide the problem, and we will say so at the estimate rather than cover it up.

Damaged drywall behind the wall does not need to be perfect, but it does need to be sound enough to nail into. The repair side is on Drywall Repair in Brigham City.

How an accent wall job runs

How does a reclaimed wood accent wall installation work?

  1. Step : 01

Send photos and the wall size

Use the estimate form with a straight-on shot of the wall, its rough width and height, and a photo of any floor, trim or furniture the boards should sit well with.

  2. Step : 02

Pick the stain from a sample

Stains are customizable to the room and test samples are available, so you see the color on a real board before anything is made. Each batch varies, so the sample sets the tone rather than an exact match.

  3. Step : 03

    Boards cut, stained and sealed

The boards are cut to sets of uniform widths, 3 to 7 inches, in lengths from 2 to 7 feet with most at 7 feet, then stained and coated in a low-VOC water-based polyurethane.

  4. Step : 04

    Install, or take the material

Tyler installs the wall, fitting each board around windows, outlets and corners. Or take the boards and put them up yourself: a chop saw and a brad nailer are all it needs.

Smith Staircases was referred to me by my granddaughter. I needed a railing in a spot in my house that didn’t previously have it. He was so nice and helpful! Saw where I needed the railing and took special care to make sure that it matches the other railing in my house perfectly. He was good and efficient, he made it look like it was all put in at the same time, but it wasn’t! He was very professional and responsive, and did great quality work! While he was there I also asked if he could fix my fence, and my cabinet door. And he did both, even though that’s not what he was contacted about.

We had a unique project for Tyler to take and he jumped right into it and executed it so well! He paid attention to details I wouldn’t have thought of and we are so happy with the work he did. And finish work we need done in the future I will be sure to get back in touch with Tyler!
Heidi HerwayGoogle review · 2023-10Finish work
Tyler did the stairs in our store and we were very impressed. He did all the prep work which included taking time to find a good match to the flooring that we already had, took of the carpet that was glued to the cement, and evened out bumpy spots. He was very professional and took special care to come in before we opened so that he would not disrupt our normal business hours. We were impressed with the quality of his work because he had to lay flooring down around rails that could not be removed and there are no gaps. He also offered to repaint our siding that needed to be done. Tyler was great and we would recommend him to anyone needing stairs, flooring, or any other finished work done.

Provided great services. I was flipping my house and he put the LVP floor, hardwood stairs, cabinets, and trim in. I didn’t love the beam that was in my living room and he provided an alternative look. It’s perfect, I’m obsessed. He has great pricing and will work with you.

FAQs

Reclaimed Wood Accent Wall Installation in Brigham City: frequently asked questions

Do I have to have To The T install the accent wall?

No. The boards are a ready-to-install product. You only need a chop saw and a brad nailer to put them up yourself. Installation is also available, so you can have Tyler do the whole wall, or buy the material on its own.

Is the wood really reclaimed?

Some of it is. The boards are a mix of hard and soft woods, mostly pine and oak. Some are truly reclaimed and some are new wood that has been aged to match. Each batch varies, so the exact mix on your wall will not be identical to the last one.

Can I pick the color?

Yes. The boards are stained, and the stain is customizable to fit the room, then coated in a low-VOC water-based polyurethane. Test samples are available, so you can see the color against your wall before the boards are made.

Can you do a ceiling the same way?

Yes. The dark stained ceiling in the photos on this page is an accent ceiling Tyler finished in October 2026, on the same job as the reclaimed wood wall. Send a photo of the ceiling and the look you want.
